What Causes
Peripheral Neuropathy?
Diabetes is the leading cause. About 70% of people with diabetes have mild to severe Neuropathy.
Nerve damage to the back can trigger Neuropathy.
Most Neuropathy is caused by lack of blood flow which decreases the supply of oxygen to the peripheral nerves and causes damage to the nerves and the nerve's protective coating.
Cancer survivors can experience post-chemo Neuropathy.
What are the Symptoms of Peripheral Neuropathy?
Symptoms depend on which nerve is damaged, and whether the damage affects one nerve, several nerves, or the whole body.
The most common symptoms of peripheral neuropathy include:
Tingling in the hands or feet
Sharp, stabbing pain
Numbness in the hands or feet
A weak, heavy feeling in the arms and legs,

A buzzing or shocking sensation
A drop in blood pressure
Sexual dysfunction, especially in men
