Peyronie's Disease Treatment
On average between 5% and 10% of men suffer from Peyronie's Disease (PD), otherwise known as curved penis.
What is Peyronie's Disease?
Male genitalia vary in shape and size, and many can be naturally, slightly curved upon achieving an erection. However, on average between five and ten percent of men suffer from Peyronie’s Disease (PD), otherwise known as curved penis. PD occurs when scar tissue or plaque forms underneath the surface of the penis in the tunica albuginea, the tough fibrous layer surrounding the urethra and corpora cavernosa. This build up causes indentations and ultimately a significant bend in the penis that is both painful and can interfere with sexual function. To date, chemicals and surgeries used to correct the issue have been unsuccessful.
PD has been linked to genetic factors and minor trauma to the penis including sports injuries, or vigorous sex where the penis is bent during penetration or pressure from the pelvic bone.
Symptoms of Peyronie’s Disease (PD)
The severity of symptoms of PD can vary, but typically they appear rapidly and worsen with time. The most frequent symptoms include:
Bent or curved penis
Lumps under the skin
Pain with or without an erection
Penile shortening
Difficulty achieving and maintaining an erection
If left untreated, PD can cause permanent nerve damage to the entire genital area, including possible damage to the urethra. These issues can further lead to difficulty urinating and trouble achieving orgasm.
